Julian Pfrombeck is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at the Department of Psychology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He obtained his PhD from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Columbia University in the United States before joining CUHK.

 

His research aims to explore the motivational potential of uncertainty for learning, social interactions, workplace diversity, and career changes over the course of the lifespan using different research designs and methods, such as longitudinal field studies, experiments, and interventions.

 

His work has been published in scientific journals including the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, Work Aging and Retirement, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, and Research in Organizational Behavior. The findings have been featured in international and national media outlets, for example, The British Psychological Society, FORTUNE, and PersonalSchweiz.

 

Julian Pfrombeck has been awarded several competitive research grants as a Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, including a UGC-funded project titled Promoting Employees’ Knowledge Seeking "When They Need it the Most" and projects supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

​He is a member of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology, the International Association of Conflict and Negotiation Management, and the Academy of Management. He served as a guest editor for a special issue on “Uncertainty and Age: Key Issues to Navigate in the Emergent New Era of Work” in the journal Work, Aging, and Retirement. He has served as a reviewer for several journals in the field of management and organizational behavior, including the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organization Science, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Human Resource Management Journal.

 

At CUHK, he serves as a member of several departmental committees, including the Industrial-Organizational Psychology Programme Committee and the Student Consultation Committee.
